Success at the British Masters Cross Country Relays 2024

Written by Rob

A fantastic cross-country performance from YASS teams at Long Eaton on 26th October 2024. This very competitive relay event consisted of a relatively flat 3km lap for each of the three runners across muddy fields and through a soggy wood.

The course included a concrete flood management structure and another section of compacted hard gravel that ruled out spikes in favour of trail shoes.  A good example of why running the course at an event beforehand is wise.

YASS Ladies 65+ A and B teams both achieved gold and bronze positions respectively at Long Eaton on 26th October. Our A Team: Marian Grace (13:55), Mary Derrick (14:21) and Caroline Lavis (15:32) achieving a winning aggregate time of 43:48.The B Team: Lorna Massey (16:40), Sylvia Crump (17:40) and Liz Lewis (17:00) achieving a third aggregate time of 51:20.Marian Grace running the fastest 3k in the W65+ category.

The men’s 65+ team, managed to achieve a fifth place out of the 12 teams entering the competition. Martin Hamm (12:38), Rob Crawford (15:04) and Graham Bath (13:45).  Martin Hamm achieving the 3rd fastest time in this category.

This event is open to all Masters age groups (from 35+) and we hope to have a greater presence at the next relay event planned for Mallory Park on 3rd May 2025.
